Armando Torres ended his cross country career at UW-Parkside in style Saturday.
The senior earned All-American status from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association with a 38th-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships in Evansville, Ind.
Torres finished with a time of 31:51.4 on the 10,000-meter course. Torres finished fourth at the Division II Midwest Regional two weeks ago to earn All-Midwest honors and also was named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team.
James Ngandu of Tiffin won the race in 30:18.8, more than 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Caroline Kurgat of Alaska-Anchorage won the women’s race in 20:32.3.
Adams State swept the men’s and women’s team titles. The men scored 44 points to beat runner-up Grand Valley State by 20 points and the women scored 126 to beat runner-up University of Mary (137).
UW-PARKSIDE: Job Ayala and James Lehman each finished second to lead the Rangers at the CUW Open at Concordia University in Mequon.
Ayala went 4-1, losing an 8-2 decision to Nick Carola of the University of Chicago in the title match at 174, and Lehman went 3-1 and lost an 8-3 decision to Kyle Fank of Wartburg in the title match at 197.
Robby Mutimer finished third at 141, winning on a medical forfeit over Jimmy McAuliffe of Elmhurst in the third-place match, and Joe Arroyo (125) and Conner Price (184) took fourth.
Horlick High School graduate Subhan Umar went 3-2 at 149, but did not place.
