The UW-Parkside women’s and men’s soccer teams were a mirror image of each other Friday.
Playing Great Lakes Valley Conference matches against Bellarmine at the Wood Road Soccer Field on the Parkside campus in Somers, the Rangers won both matches 2-1. In each match, Parkside scored a goal in each half.
The only difference was that the women, whose game was first, allowed a first-half goal, while the men allowed a second-half goal by Bellarmine.
The Parkside women (2-7-1, 1-5-1 GLVC) outshot Bellarmine (3-2-2, 2-2-2 GLVC) 15-6. Maycee Kroening rebounded her own shot from in close to score Parkside’s first goal of the game at 25:43. Bellarmine tied the game on a goal by Kenzi Gooley at 41:10 and Kroening scored the game-winner at 49:28 on a shot from the top of the box off an assist by Jazmin Castanon.
Adrianna Bratel made two saves in goal for the Rangers.
In the men’s game, Lexi Prpa of Wind Lake gave Parkside a 1-0 lead with his goal at 43:44 on a free kick. Jack Krenzian and Brandon Henderson had the assists.
After Chris Hunt scored at 59:13 to tie the match, Abraham Kanneh scored off an assist by Max Ludwig at 62:08 for the game-winner. Kanneh got the ball on a deflected pass and beat his defender.
Nate Kitchell had one save in goal for Parkside.
