Running in temperatures around 40 degrees Saturday, the Carthage College men’s and women’s cross country teams combined for 10 career-best times at the 36-team NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Meet at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.

The Red Men had six runners post career-best times and the Red Men finished 13th. Dan Cotton was the top finisher for Carthage, taking 55th place in a career-best 24:54.7.

The Lady Reds had four career-best times and finished 20th, led by Alanna Vargas, who was 59th in a career-best 22:26.2. Senior Maddy Schwartz, a Union Grove High School graduate running in her final college cross country race, finished 129th in 23:39.1.

Carthage will find out Sunday whether it will receive one of 16 at-large bids or have any individuals qualify for the Division III national meet.
