Carthage College’s Jamie Tausend and North Central’s Alexis Flores were selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men’s Soccer Players of the Week.

Tausend, a senior defender from Deer Park, lll., helped lead the Red Men to a 2-1-0 record last week as their only loss was to ninth-ranked University of Chicago.

He had an assist on a Freddie Martinez goal during a 4-1 win over Kalamazoo on September 5. Carthage held the Hornets to just five shots (three on goal). During a 2-1 win over Hope on September 8, the Flying Dutchmen were also held to five shots (two on goal).

Carthage’s Kelsey Dejno and Illinois Wesleyan’s Cassie Leishman were selected as the CCIW Women’s Soccer Players of the Week.

Dejno, a freshman midfielder from Kenosha, scored three goals for the 2-1-0 Lady Reds last week. She netted the game-winning header off an assist from Jacey Kent in the 100th minute of a 4-3 overtime victory against St. Norbert on September 9.

Cross country

UW-PARKSIDE: Parkside senior Armando Torres has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week in cross country.

In addition, Torres was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the NCAA Division II Men’s National Athlete of the Week.

Torres took first place with a winning 8K time of 25 minutes, 04.30 seconds in the eight-kilometer at Parkside’s Vic Godfrey Open on Saturday.
