The Carthage College men’s basketball team broke open a close game by going on a 32-17 run to open the second half to beat Centre College 61-41 Friday in a first-round game of the Webster Classic at St. Louis.

Carthage will play Coe or Webster at 3 p.m. Saturday in the championship game.

The Red Men (2-1) led 25-19 at halftime, then pushed the lead to 57-36 in the final minutes of the game.

Carthage had four players score in double figures, led by Brad Kruse with 17 points. Jordan Thomas had 14 points and Brad Perry and Derek Mason each added 10. Perry also had eight rebounds. as the Red Men outrebounded the Colonels 45-32. Mason added five assists and a pair of steals.

Art Walker had 11 points to lead Centre (1-2).
