The UW-Parkside women’s volleyball team had to work extra Saturday, but completed a weekend sweep of two Great Lakes Valley Conference matches at St. Louis, beating Missouri-St. Louis 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 Saturday and Maryville 25-18, 25-20, 26-24 Friday.

Katie Adams, a Horlick High School graduate, ran the offense efficiently for the Rangers (7-8, 5-2 GLVC) with 31 assists against UMSL and 29 against Maryville. She also had six blocks in the two matches. Lexie Calloway had nine kills.

The defense led the way against UMSL, with Annie Leo totaling 32 digs and Lexi Turek getting six blocks. The Tritons had just 23 kills and had 23 hitting errors for a hitting percentage of .000.

Against Maryville, Leah Fenske had a team-high nine kills.

CARTHAGE: The Lady Reds swept a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 Friday at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Megan Behrendt had 16 kills and St. Catherine’s High School graduate Ellie LeCount had 40 assists for Carthage (11-3 overall).

Women’s soccer

CARTHAGE: The Lady Reds rallied with two goals in the final 12 minutes of the match, but just fell short in a 4-3 loss to North Central at Kenosha Saturday in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener for both teams.

North Central (5-4-1) led 1-0 at the half and led 4-1 after a goal at the 63:16 mark.

Erin Otto scored unassisted goals at 78:34 and 89:25 for the Lady Reds (7-4-0).

Carthage goalkeeper Emily Furmanek made four saves. Carthage outshot North Central 12-5 in the second half.
