The Butler Elite of Racine boys basketball team began play in the AAU Seventh Grade Division 1 National Championships on a strong note Monday, beating Team United of North Carolina 69-49 in U13 pool play at Memphis, Tenn.

Matt Brown led the way with 22 points, including 5 of 7 shooting from 3-point range and 7 of 11 overall shooting. Other top performers were Quinn Cafferty (12 points, team-high nine rebounds), Demonta Hudson (11 points, four steals) and Larry Canady (11 points, four assists)

Tuesday, Butler Elite plays Team Renz from Harlem, N.Y.

The team is sponsored by Racine native and NBA All-Star Caron Butler.
