This year we celebrate April Fools' Day and Easter on April 1. This has only happened 12 times since 1700. April Fools' Day is an annual celebration commemorated by playing practical jokes and spreading hoaxes. Easter, on the other hand, is an annual holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. One celebration encompasses foolishness, while the other embraces forgiveness. Certainly Easter takes precedence for obvious reasons. But because both are being celebrated on the same day this would be a good time to recognize a positive aspect of each.

When each is celebrated the way it was intended, they are both good for our health and for our heart. April Fool's Day encourages behavior that brings all the benefits of laughter, including stress relief and reducing strain on the heart. Easter encourages behavior that brings all the benefits of humility, including anxiety relief and reducing hardness of heart. Both laughter and humility are good for us emotionally, physically and spiritually.

On this special day, I would like to encourage everyone to celebrate April Fools' Day by making someone else laugh by doing something quirky and cheerful. It will truly benefit both of you. I would also like to encourage everyone to celebrate Easter in a way in which Jesus would certainly approve. Let us follow His example and forgive those who have, either intentionally or unintentionally, hurt us or harmed us. A simple 'I forgive you' would amazingly lift that burdensome weight. It will profoundly benefit both of you.
