Thanks for the recent article about David Hazen's retirement from Racine Unified. Sometimes when people keep their heads down and just go about doing their jobs to the best of their ability, they often go unrecognized for their efforts. It was appropriate that the article noted not only Hazen's service of 10 years as the district's COO, but also his nine years on the school board.

There is a very fine line between providing the highest quality education and maintaining fiscal responsibility to the district's taxpayers. Hazen always kept his focus on the long term benefits of the community.

Though he may have gone relatively unrecognized during his tenure with the district, he was certainly appreciated. As the superintendent noted in the article, his legacy will be felt for many years to come.
