The Journal Times recent editorial regarding the Trump administration barring the use of certain terminology in scientific reports from the CDC did well in showing the dangers of biased, ignorant politicians trying to change science. There are other examples.

About 20 years ago the CDC was doing a study of the great public health problem of the epidemic of deaths by guns. The gun lobby told Congress to stop the program. Congress obeyed and cut off funds to the CDC for that study.

A few years ago the government of Florida forbid physicians from asking their patients about the presence of guns in their homes which is a risk for accident or suicide.

Then, too, there are examples such as politicians and school boards requiring certain religious beliefs of creationism to be taught in public schools, book banning and, even worse, denying facts regarding the urgent need to protect our planet.

Your editorial stated the problem well. Scientific studies should not be hampered by politicians.
