Yesterday I read the letters to the editor with the vice-president of the NRA giving his paranoid rant in the background and I am forced to conclude "I have met the enemy and he is us."

We don't seem to remember these atrocities after about 2 or 3 weeks and in a few months when we have a chance to elect people who might tackle the problem effectively we allow other issues to cloud our judgement. We allow our leaders to confuse the issue by blaming the FBI or local law enforcement and then tell us they'll fix the problem with better background checks. Human error will always exist and sooner or later some nut will fall through the cracks and we'll have another massacre. We all know the problem is the type of guns available to the general public.

PLEASE cut this letter out and read it every 14th of the month to commemorate the 17 who died in Florida and the day before every election to help you remember what needs to be done and vote for candidates who will do the right thing and pay more attention to their constituents than the NRA. Columbine, Sandy Hook, Stoneman Douglas. Let's hope it's not too late to keep the names of our local schools off the list.
