As a 40-year Yorkville resident, I listened intently in the last two sessions discussing changes to our time honored master plan. Currently businesses can locate right next to the freeway and residents have a minimum of 2 or 3 acre parcels. These wide open spaces allow for peaceful country living in a rural setting.
Essentially the new plan, if adopted, would allow businesses to expand well beyond the Interstate. Secondly, residential property would contain suburb type lots for homes and townhouses in one designated area, thus higher density than today’s open spaces. However, with urban sprawl, this containment area would set a new standard and easily spread throughout Yorkville.
The sentiment from our community is united. Why us? We love our farms, larger lot sizes with the quiet and spaces of Yorkville. The Town Board’s previous master plans have served us well and been a blueprint for success. Don’t change what has been so successful.
The core question to the Town Board is why do we have to change our identity because a Taiwanese company sets up shop in another jurisdiction? I hope and pray the board will listen to its residents so we don’t lose the character of our community.
