Hidden away in a second page paragraph of the Dec. 25th Ironman article (Top 10 sports stories of 2017: No.7, Ironman Triathlon discontinued) is a sad truth that we've witnessed before, and here it is again.
Sometimes Racine's leaders are short sighted.
Instead of making improvements on North Main Street, which are important to running and cycling events (and which bring new dollars into our community), recent decisions were made to completely redo streets like Yout and 16th Street. While these may have been needed improvements, they did nothing to improve the ability of our community to attract or keep regional events like the Ironman Triathalon.
The weather may have hurt participation, but that's not under our control. Road quality is. Let's take that negative factor about Racine off the table ... soon.
