Is David Kristopeit upset about handing out free condoms because we will become a laughingstock, or is it a morality problem? I am sure there are worse things to make us laughingstocks.
At the National Rifle Association and Wisconsin Firearm Owners, Ranges, Clubs, and Educators Inc. (FORCE) annual convention in Weston this month, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill into law that allows suicide vests five years after the state approved concealed firearms, and seconds a…
Supporters of "Gleason Majority" candidates Anna Marie Clausen and Rick McCluskey have stated they have not served on the Mount Pleasant Board of Trustees long enough to be blamed for controversies on Highway V or the closing of the Lake Park fire station.
Future historians will reflect on the mistreatment of injury victims by the current Wisconsin Legislature and search for motives.
Leave it to the stubborn and cantankerous commenters and letter writers in Racine to focus on immature jokes about safe sex. Forget that the article cites previous success stories across our country. Please, just focus on an imaginary talk show host's ribald quip.
Whining has never lifted anybody out of poverty. Whining has never gotten a positive result from a foreign power. So, why is anybody listening to presidential candidates who whine incessantly? "It's my turn!" "Mean lady scares me." "Press doesn't pick on that guy enough."
The Feb. 5 headline states the mayors will debate lake diversion. Doesn't Canada have a say in what is done with Great Lakes water? After all, Lake Superior does drain into Lake Michigan, being that we are at a lower altitude. If Waukesha was in the Lake Michigan watershed, there would be no…
Most of us are familiar with the saying, “parents are our first teachers.” That is my story. I am the daughter of Brian F. O’Connell, and I can confidently say that my parents were and continue to be my best teachers.
In the Feb. 16 spring primary, a field of three candidates for the Wisconsin State Supreme Court will be narrowed to two who will then run on April 5.
Mount Pleasant residents have a primary election on Feb. 16. Five candidates have come forward to run against Anna Marie Clausen and Rick McCluskey, who have failed the people time and time again. Jon Hansen and John Martini are running against Clausen and Don Schulz; and Terri Isaacson and …
I don’t like political candidates making statements about themselves or their opponents that aren’t accurate. The comments, questions and statements commentators, moderators, radio personalities, candidates, protesters and supporters are supposed to be factual, but are they?
In August 2014, the Mount Pleasant Village Board voted to amend the sewer/water contract with Caledonia, which lowered Caledonia's costs and imposed assessments of nearly $90 per foot for residents on Highway V in Mount Pleasant, all for development in Caledonia.
The safety and welfare of the residents of Mount Pleasant have been totally ignored by some members of the village board. In my opinion, village issues should be discussed at a village meeting with the board deciding the outcome. Issues as important as adding Elmwood Park to our fire/rescue …
The Wisconsin legislature is presently considering AB 450, a bill that would strongly encourage local police forces to check into the legal status of persons they charge with a crime, effectively making our police an extension of federal immigration law enforcement.
You must be kidding — free condoms in the mail, according to the front page headline in The Journal Times on Feb. 6? And Community Health Director Bobbi Fergus says one reason for the program is that the health department may be closed when people are looking for condoms. Really? Does Fergus…
I was the chairperson of the Community Development Authority (CDA) of Mount Pleasant for six years. I met many wonderful people from corporations and developments. If there was a development we were interested in, the CDA periodically requested a joint meeting with the Village Board. Extensi…
More than fifty years ago, to better understand an increase in illicit drug investigations, I arranged for Dr. Bacon, a Racine psychiatrist, to conduct a pro bono, in-service training session for Racine Police Department detectives. The doctor emphasized to effectively deal with drug problem…
Madison's republicans are again trying to privatize public resources to benefit investors and corporate donors — now they’re after water. Under current Wisconsin law, any proposal for sale of public municipal water and sewer services must “be approved by a majority of the municipality's resi…
Concerning the vandalism to Burlington's Lincoln statue, shouldn't the perpetrator(s) be responsible for paying for the damage they willfully caused? Why would a fundraiser even be considered?
If the people of Wisconsin want fairness, justice and non-partisanship, they will choose JoAnne Kloppenburg as Supreme Court justice in the primary election.
I agree with The Journal Times editorial that urges the state to educate voters about the Voter ID law. As you stated, Wisconsin's ID law is one of the most restrictive of any state. The legislature could have included other types of photo ID, but choose not to do that. The least they can do…

Under the leadership of our current staff, administration and trustees, the Village of Mount Pleasant has continued to be the leader in Racine County for new business development, new housing starts, along with several upgrades to our parks for all to enjoy.
With the election on Feb. 16 for the Village of Mount Pleasant trustees, residents should take care in voting. Don't return the incumbent from seat No. 2 McCluskey or seat No. 6 Clausen. If so, you have the same situation as today. Sound of silence.
Growing up in Lake Park, I have known Ken Otwaska for many years. He is honest and very trustworthy. He will represent our community and concerns here in Lake Park, which I feel, are sometimes overlooked.
