RACINE — The Journal Times asked Racine residents what they’d like to see the city improve on. With summer well under way, most people said they hope to see a wider variety of recreational activities offered.

Dylan Vytlacil, 25, student:

“I’d like to see more live music down at the beach. It would bring in more people and it would be a lot of fun.”

Dominique Barrios, 18, sales associate at Michaels:

“There’s not enough for the kids to do. Maybe if there were more parks or programs or day cares in the area it would be better.”

Jessica Dyess, 35, Gateway employee:

“Our ballparks need to be maintained a little better. My son plays baseball and the fields just aren’t really kept up. Other fields are so much nicer and we could really use that here.”

Juan Contreras, 22, concrete worker:

“Over in Japan they have playgrounds for adults. They have different kinds of equipment just to go out and get physical. I think that would be cool.”

Alisa Danzer, 20, intern at SC Johnson

“More public pools would be nice. It would give kids something to do on really hot days like this.”

All local and state governments borrow money. That is a tactic to help keep taxes down otherwise the government would have to raise taxes to pay for it in full. That way they can spread the payments over the course of a few years.

If you want to eat at the big boys table, please know what you are talking about, and we have one of the best governors in this country. To say you want a new governor you are saying you are full of s---.

Increasing access to better paying jobs in more specialized fields is a start. Also, empowering homeowners and apartment landlords to take better care of their properties can go a long way in simply making people feel safer when driving around the city. As far as the comment made earlier about getting rid of residents, that is absurd. The people are OK, but so many citizens are to close minded. We need to work together to improve our neighborhood s and end this viscous cycle of violence in our city. Simply blaming it on poverty, unemployment, and class polarity no longer works.

"Maybe if there were more parks or programs or day cares in the area it would be better.”

Has anyone seen how many little mom & pop daycares this town has? Just drive down Douglas Avenue, or look at all the cargo vans hauling kids with the day care name on the side of it. I know moms and dads have to work and need Day Cares, but some of these kids are in day care and no one is working. They get free transporation to and from. And what kind of services are the Day Cares actually providing? Reading, Coloring, Crafts, or is it just a non-stop diaper changing and feeding program?

Racine needs more office or industrial companies to to be based or sub based here. Not more retail stores that provide only low paying jobs like Walmart that cater to low income people, which bring in more low income people because of the affordability to live here.

Bring in these office or industrial companies that offer better paying jobs, increase tax base, reduce the the number of low income residents which attract retail businesses that offer higher paying starting jobs and cater to customers that are above low income level. Unfortunately it's a very complex process and much easier said than done.

Racine as well as surrounding communities lost many good companies that moved else where. If SC Johnson were to move out Racine, the city is done.

The "kids " going to John Dickert's and his Elitist Wife's NorthBay Neighborhood and protesting his taxation policy, his wife's failure to properly educate children, racist policies in the City, and Dickert living large at the expense of Racine's poor.

Let the Bloods, Crips, Satan's Disciples and Gangster Disciples visit the neighborhood (North Bay) of their OPPRESSORS! Let's see who runs a better MAFIA and can exercise their firepower and vlolence.

An investigation as to whether or not property tax receipts are being FALSIFIED.

Why Mary Osterman is being given a "Pass" on 409 Main St. by Jim Ladwig.

IF Jim Ladwig will accept partial payments and cancel total outstanding debt on property tax bills - SO it can be applied fairly to all.

Why Monte Osterman can obtain more than $15,000 worth in contracts from the City of Racine WHILE an elected County Supervisor.

The best way to improve Racine is to remove the filth from City Hall. As long as liars and conmen run the city, it will just get worse and worse.

Immediate end to all defined pension plans.

Transfer of all government workers to ObamaCare.

    Ending of public employee unions.

End of the "Strong Mayor" system of goverance.

    Elimination of the Mayor position.

Hiring of a fiscally competent City Manager.

Recouping of John Dickert's personal legal expenses.

Reduction of property taxes by 50%.

Elimination of Gateway and it's unelected board with it's taxing authority.

Trail of Herr Laing for patently offensive statements.

Elimination of public education, RUSD, Davis Hazen, and taxing authority for "public education".

I'd call that a GOOD START.

I've been reading talk about removing street lights in Racine, I really think there should be more on South Green Bay Road, going toward Milwaukee. It's dimly lit, and if you're traveling early morning, u can't see a thing.
