A group of mostly left-leaning statewide organizations joined a call for debate between Republican Congressman Paul Ryan and his Democratic challenger Rob Zerban, co-signing a letter sent to Ryan’s campaign manager Friday.

In the letter the groups, including Wisconsin’s Alliance for Retired Americans, Common Cause, and Citizen Action of Wisconsin, urged Rep. Ryan — who represents all of Racine County — to set a date and time, and accept Zerban’s invitation to debate “without delay.”

Because Ryan is simultaneously running as the GOP’s vice presidential candidate, campaign manager Kevin Seifert has said that attending a debate will depend on making time in Ryan’s national schedule.

The groups’ letter states that although scheduling difficulties are understandable, the unique nature of this year’s race “only underlines the importance of clearly delineating the choice facing voters in November.”

Hello, my fellow American voters!

I watched the Oct. 3rd, 11th, 16th, and 22nd debates.
1st Romney-Obama debate covered 7 topics: jobs; budget deficit/debt; social security/entitlements; federal gov’t economic regulation and role; healthcare; partisan gridlock.
2nd Romney-Obama debate covered 11 topics: college graduate jobs; gas prices; taxes; equal pay; Bush policies; Obama’s record; illegal immigrants; Libya; assault weapons; jobs; candidate misperceptions.
3rd Romney-Obama debate covered 10 topics: Libya; Syria; Egypt; U.S. world role; military spending; Israel; Iran; Afghanistan; China; U.S. national security threats.
Ryan-Biden debate covered 10 topics: Libya; Iran; economy; medicare/social security/entitlements; tax reform/spending/budget cuts; military policy; Afghanistan; Syria; abortion; negative campaign tactics.

Romney and Ryan won all 4 debates, although Obama improved some in the 2nd debate and Romney slightly took the win both in the 2nd and 3rd debates.
In the 3rd debate (unlike in prior debates), Obama reflected his weakness and disrespect by interrupting Romney a lot and using too many “one-line quips” to try to denigrate Romney.

Ryan won despite Biden’s consistently rude behavior during the debate (often interrupted Ryan, laughed when Ryan talked, pointed his finger). Biden’s tactics to evade issues/truth disrespected Americans interested in facts, figures, forecasts, and solutions for real people with real problems.

Romney and Ryan won with substance, directness, integrity, respect, clarity, facts, commitment, inspiration, and leadership.

As an INDEPENDENT female feminist (egalitarian) voter, I support the Romney/Ryan ticket.
Romney and Ryan, with their no-nonsense and methodic approach to solving America’s problems, are the best persons in terms of qualifications and character to lead our country and make life better for all Americans.

I am inspired by Romney/Ryan, and I hope that you are too!

Best regards,

Ahh Fred.
Glass houses brother.

Ryan has been a real disappointment for the Romney ticket, as poll numbers shows senior support for Romney has flip to Obama. Ryan has become a real liability especially with seniors. I think Ryan owes Wisconsin senior an explanation for his medicare plans and what a better way than a debate with Zerban. I'm glad seniors are starting to realize who's on their size. Go you geezers!

More fodder for the hate left.. Hate isn't an ideology, it is a political movement though. (D)

Ryan's voting record shows he's voted for every spending measure during the bush admin. accounting for over 90% of the current deficit and tragic that he's consider as a "deficit hawk". Ryan poured on the gasoline and light the match, and now he's yelling FIRE. If elected, Romney and Ryan will have us at war with Iran in a year as their policies (which they have NOT specify, cause it's the same plan as BUSH) will fail and they will need a distraction.

GG - I find it quite telling that you did not have a problem with John Kerry and Joe Lieberman running for President/Vice President and the US Senate at the same time! You Liberals are such Hypocrites!

jackamoe

The various leftist organizations calling for a debate are just trying to cause a stir amongst voters, and a distraction to take Ryan's focus of the bigger prize (VP/the GOP's effort to win back the White House). It just goes to show that neither party is immune to using shifty political strategies.

An American

I would like to be a fly on the wall when the non-Christian Lying Ryan has to tell old St. Pete that it was a good thing he proposed to end Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Veteran benefits because the wealthy need more tax breaks.

OptimisticPessimist

So some of you think Ryan should not run for Senate and VP, but had no problems when Barrett ran in Milwaukee for mayor as well as for Governor? Double standard having hypocrites!

An American

Get your politics correct. Ryan is running for Wisconsin's Congregational 1st District, not the senate.

An American

Lying Ryan and his GOP band of rich socialists have been working hard to redistribute the wealth in America. Follow the money and see how it has been redestributed to the top 1 percent. It's free enterise for the working and middle class, and socialism for the rich.

Zorro

If he wants to keep the seat as his backup, he ought to at least work a little at it by debating his opponent.

Westsider

Ryan won't debate Zerban because he has supporters that have fallen for his lies, and these Ryan supporters are not interested in a meaningful debate. Ryan voted for every spending legislation under the Bush Admin. As a matter of fact over 90% of the current national deficit can be directly link to spending legislation that Ryan voted for, and yet he has been able to somehow cast himself as a "deficit hawk." Ryan recently criticized military cuts he VOTED FOR last year. Who has the brass to do this? It's someone that has loyal supporters that are not critical and not fact checking. "Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it." -Mark Twain

Politics are Fun

Why debate - Look at Paul Ryans record. Regarding Medicare - right now the only thing that will kill off medicare completely comes from doing nothing at all. The baby boomers are just too many and there won't be enough working folks to fund it. I realize many don't like the ideas of Paul Ryan but at least he has the courage to offer some idea to save medicare. As of now the democrats have no idea how to save medicare hoping that people are too stupid to realize that doing nothing will lead to imminent doom for the program. Medicare as we know it is already dead as we sit here and do nothing about it. Taxing all rich people at 100% still won't be able to save it so it is time for everyone to grow up and figure something out.

Zorro
Zorro

Medicare's funded primarily by a modest payroll tax, and Obamacare just extended its life by another eight years through cost savings. The calamity howlers also claim Social Security's "going bankrupt," when it's clearly not. Don't be fooled by such propaganda. Social Security's been solvent for more than 70 years; Medicare for nearly 50 years. Millions of people work their whole lives for these well-earned benefits and we should leave both very successful programs alone.

@AnAmerican - You do realize that the story you are referencing was a satire by a left leaning bloger, or did that just go over your head. While I do believe, much to my dimay, that Obama will win the election there is freefall as MSNBC and CNN would like you to believe. They are just hopeful for that. Also Granny Ryan cannot just take his name off of the ballot. there is a Wisconsin law thet set the date in wich he would be able to do that and it was before he was announced as the running mate. All Zerban is doing is trying to create a story where there is none.

granny grits

So you are saying he must continue to run for two offices because his name is in the ballot?

If he had the conviction to run for VP he could resign, but he knows he'll need that government job come November 7.

Ind Voter

Yes I am. Wisconsin law requires his name be on the ballot so he must run. Granted he could resign right now and then win the election in November. He is leading the polls here and I do not recall seeing one ad for Ryan or a mailer even, yet I have seen and heard them for Zerban.

granny grits

Is there a law that states he would be arrested if he didn't run? Would Mickey Mouse have to run, under penalty of arrest, if his name was on the ballot, too?

I think your cut at this misses the point. Ryan has no confidence in Romney and wants he to keep his government job.

Ind Voter

Granny, I understand fully what you are saying, but that does not change the fact that his name is now on the ballot. So, by definition he is running. If he does no campaigning that is up to him, but since his name is on the ballat and connot be removed he legally is running for the Congress. There is nothing within his power to not run for this office only whether or not he campaigns. Is that clear enough to show why leagally he has to run. Just FYI I am done on this point I will let you be the more stubborn one on th point here.

Perhaps you should read this:

read the authors note at the end. It is satire. He even states he is sure Ryandoes not call Romnet the stench. Thanks for posting proof to my point.

An American

Lying Ryan already knows he is trouble and has been caught referring to nitwit Romney as "Stench." Now that Lying Ryan has gotten exposed as the extemist he is on the national level, voters have him figured out and it doesn't look good for "Gilligan," as those on the campaign bus call the bungling lying Ryan.

granny grits

Why won't Ryan make a real commitment to running with Mitt and quit his day job? It would appear that he has little faith in their prospects for success.

Perhaps he knew that people wouldn't be willing to destroy Medicare and the ticket was doomed from the start?
