RIPON - Matthew Walker, 16, of Wauwatosa was elected Thursday as the 2011 Badger Boys State Governor.
"This has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Badger Boys State citizens are some of the greatest citizens in Wisconsin," said Gov. Walker, who is attending Badger Boys State as a representative from Wauwatosa East High School. He also happens to be the son of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Badger Boys State is a program held over several days through Saturday at Ripon College this week and it teaches the workings of government to young people "by doing."
Gov. Walker's Badger Boys State experience was made possible due to sponsorship from the Wisconsin American Legion Post 537 in Milwaukee.
"I was not sure what I was going to run for when I arrived, but my confidence grew during the week as I went from being nominated and winning Mayor, then becoming County Executive and finally Governor," added the young Gov. Walker.
