MOUNT PLEASANT — Twenty-seven food service jobs at Ridgewood Care Center will be eliminated in two months because of Ridgewood’s change of dietary services provider.
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced the layoffs Friday afternoon along with releasing a letter from Sodexo, the current dietary services provider at Ridgewood, 3205 Wood Road, a skilled-nursing home.
“Sodexo will be permanently closing its operations at Ridgewood Care Center,” wrote Amanda Lindenmoyer, senior manager of human resources for Sodexo. “The closure has been prompted by the Ridgewood Care Center’s decision to discontinue the Sodexo’s services in the dietary department at that location, and contract with another company to provide its dietary services.”
The action will result in the permanent elimination of three salaried and 24 hourly positions on Feb. 28, Lindenmoyer wrote.
Ridgewood administrators were not available for comment Friday afternoon.
However, she added, “Please note that the new contracting services company may hire the hourly employees, but we cannot guarantee this occurring.”
The jobs to be eliminated include three cooks, 21 food service workers, a general manager, manager and clinical dietician.
By state law, employers of 50 or more people in Wisconsin are normally required to give 60 days notice before a mass layoff or closing.
