RACINE — Calling the local recall election “an utter mockery,” several prominent Assembly Republicans Wednesday called on the Government Accountability Board to resolve election issues before November.

A letter signed by State Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald and Joint Finance Committee Co-Chair Robin Vos, among others, points to several reported problems in the recall for the 21st state Senate District. The issues include tampered-with ballot bags, unsigned poll books and a disregard for same-day registration requirements, they wrote.

“It is an utter mockery of our system and clerks are simply not complying with the law,” the letter states.

Vos, R-Rochester, said the issues are likely not limited to Racine and they want the GAB to respond with a plan so whoever wins or loses the November election will have confidence in the results.

“I think that the results in Racine, regardless of the outcome, show that there were problems with the system,” Vos said.

Former state Sen. John Lehman, D-Racine, defeated state Sen. Van Wanggaard, R-Racine, in the June 5 election. The Racine County Sheriff’s Office has investigated several election-related complaints and turned their reports over to the district attorney.

The letter requests the GAB ensure county clerks and poll workers understand the proof-of-residency law, that poll books are properly signed and that municipalities verify new voters’ addresses within 10 days of the election.

A staff attorney with the GAB has previously said the city must enter new same-day voters into the state’s voter registration system 30 days following the election, but sometimes there are extenuating circumstances to meeting the deadline.

“If the GAB doesn’t address these problems and correct them, it would only welcome more potential voter irregularities in future elections,” the letter states. “Our state can’t have our election process undermined by questions of potential fraud.”

Give me a break:
Your comment sounds an awful lot like "I know you are, but what am I?" A recall election is part of the democratic process. 900,000 signatures on a recall petition is democracy in action. It led to the second vote. Republicans won all but one of the recall elections. Why are they whining about the one they lost? It was an election: Wangaard lost. Deal with it. Just because voters disagreed with you does not mean that it was fraud. Perhaps it means that your narrow philosophy is not the majority in that district.

Give Me a Break

Alan,
You are right, there was a vote. In fact, we had two. Why don't Democrats respect democracy?

johmny

I think whinny idiots is an apt term. What a bunch of loosers.

Alan Karls

Why don't republicans respect democracy? There was a vote, people voted, people counted the vote, the vote was certified.

Why are they upset? What a bunch of whining losers.

Because the big babies in the GOP want you to believe there is no other way than theirs -- Voter ID. Karl Rove promise them that if they could keep just 1 percent from voting, President Obama could not win.

Robin Vos is an is an utter mockery of our system of representative government. We all know that he represents himself and ALEC, not us. Vote him out and we can begin to heal.

Shall we say cry babies! LOL

read your post and you are still wrong on Walkers election for county executive

Joeboy5471

jrunny check your facts about Scotty after you reread my original post............While you are doing that, you should find an audio and a transript of Scotty Walker and his position on recall elections. Scotty says he was an Eagle Scout. He better contact the BSA and resign his rank. He is not living up to his oath.

Liberals can have unnecessary recalls, but when the republicans disagree with a very interesting recall election, oh no!!!!
LiberalKim.....Romney wins and repeals Obamacare..

Had enough

Romney wins...but the repeal of Obamacare lies within the powers of congress...not the president. Romney is running that he will "start" the process to get the repeal going, but he cannot "repeal" it on his own. The only president who seems to over-extend presidential powers just so happens to be .... Obama.

a moonbat woman hating mormon who likes the idea of 42 wives will NOT win.

Romney created Obamacare, for the love of awareness! The Republicans did a bang up job producing a candidate to rival the President -- he's Obama's political cousin with an economic plan based on fortunetelling and the repeal of corporate taxes for companies who remove jobs from American soil.

What a bunch of "Whiners" !! Vos is just like my Grandkids---gets mad and Whines when they don't get their way ! Wannie lost fair and square because he is a crook and is a lacky for the wealthy and Vos should try to "man up" and except it. He should run to the Koch boys and ask them what he should do next---what a terrible excuse for a legislator. He is turning Wisconsin into an embarrassment to the other states. Shame on the bum.

Just to help out the news article that talks about the utter failures of the City of Racine Clerk, that Clerk is named Janice Johnson-Martin. It's stunning to me that name is not in the article.

Joeboy Gov Walker was not elected from a recall He won the election to fill a OPEN SEAT after democrat executive ament resigned in disgraced. As kimmy about Wikipedia and look it up.

Joeboy5471

The mockery started on the right side of the aisle. These bozos are just sour grapes and are showing their true colors. Recalls were "OK" when they served the Republicans. Just ask Scotty walker when he was vying for the Country Exec's job. The same Racine voting system elected Vos, I wonder if he will be complaining if he gets elected again. The partisian politics of the Republicans is ruining out country and if it continues past the 2012 election, we as a country are going to be in big trouble. But you know, the Republicans would never admit they are the problem.

Are you AFRAID of facts or are you just a spouter of of left wing talking point? County Executive Tom Ament RESIGNED from office in disgrace due to the pension scandal in Milwaukee. A serious breach of conduct, pension deal that is still in effect for some people. Scott Walker was ELECTED to the position AFTER a special election to FILL said position. But I will assume that people like you think that there should be NO reason why a county worker should be able to "lump sum" out 10 years worth of pension upfront and STILL collect a sizable month pension.

Racine you should be ashamed! Lehman will only spend your money and then disappear from the scene

No one would have any money under Wangaard's way of legislatng. He proved himself against the working class while his votes favored the ultra rich. He was just another Koch Brother pawn, like Robin Vos, only they were counting on you not noticing.

Had enough

Please provide you evidence that proves your claim that Wangaard and Vos are pawns who are taking orders from the Koch brothers? Do you all subscribe to the same memo that lets you know what talking points to follow? I mean honestly...why do you people still try to make the Koch brothers the defacto head of the conservative movement.

So jimmy last time I looked conservatives do and will run this state for a long time. We also have the WH by years end. It is so enjoyable watching you try to will a will for good old barry. Put this country sees that he is a failure and a useless president

An American

Your anti-American sentiment is very, very obvious. You want desperately to go back to the failed policies of George W. Bush, and the GOP. It wasn't that long ago, you will remember, W had the stock market in the 6000's, 750,000 Americans jobs going bye-bye each month. Osama Bin Laden and Kadaffy were laughing at us, etc. Yeah, I can see why you want to go back to the bad old days, comrade.

Can someone really explain what AA's retort is supposed to mean? Conservatives simply want people to be responsible for their own actions. We want less government intrusion into our lives. Are we saying that Social Security, medicare, and all welfare programs should be abolished??? NO!! Social Security needs to be touched up if it is going to survive to benefit those who are in need of it. Medicare needs SERIOUS revisions IF it is going to be financially feasible. Welfare shouldn't be a program that people should strive to want to be on. It is meant as a stop gap; not a means of survival. America needs a tax system, school system and social program revision IF we are going to be able to keep ANY of these programs viable. You can't just keep taxing people more in order to benefit more. What happens when those who benefit out number those who pay??

LiberalKim
LiberalKim

"We want less government intrusion into our lives."

no, what you really mean is that you Conservatives are such cheapskates you don't want to give a dime to the poor.

BVP

"Conservatives," cannot be lumped in any one, all-encompassing group. Far too many DO want SS, Medicare and all welfare programs to be abolished. Unfortunately for the Right, those who do have hijacked the party to extremist levels that rival some of the more fundamentalist, Islamic, political parties.

It is time to stop this nonsense. The republicans have made mockery of the election process by enacting voter I'd laws which are still yet to be implemented. Voting is an I exact process that has always had minor issues. They are whining about stupid ideology. If as much effort was put into solving real problems, we would all be better off!

Had enough

I would pretty much guaranty that their would be NO issues to complain about if libbies didn't get a leftist judge to put the voter ID on hold.

Do they ever stop whining?
They are so dead set in thinking that if this State is predominantly ran by Republicans, that Romney will be voted in. Its not gonna happen!!

How does one say that Obamacare is the "best thing since the invention of the wheel" (that's a far reach btw) when NO ONE even knows what Obamacare consists of, how it will be effective, who it will actually affect and how it will be fully implemented? Nancy Pelosi wasn't far off the mark when she said we have to pass it to find out all the wonderful things in it...no one STILL to date knows WHAT Obamacare IS??

LiberalKim

Had Enough,
Any plan that is to give health care to EVERYBODY that is alive IS the best thing.
Yes, there are kinks but ultimately they will be worked out. The main point here is that NOBODY dies from lack of health care.

BVP

@Had enough,

All other arguments aside, the only ones who don't know what Obamacare is by this point are those who haven't read it. You've had years to understand that pill, you'd do yourself a service to know exactly what you're swallowing. While I have my personal issues with the policy, those who still site Pelosi and/or state that we don't know what it is, are demeaning to good, civil discourse and any intelligent argument in favor of scaling back any portion of it. It's done. Quit being a reactive stick in the mud and start figuring out policies moving forward that will mitigate this pill's side effects.

jaminjoesgarage

Give it up!!! There wasn't any fraud or at best, irregularities, any different than any other district. You whinny idiots, especially self-serving Vos, are only attacking Racine because you lost. Do you not see the entire world is watching and laughing at you? I know you're blind sheep, but I didn't realize the blind part was literal. Vos, even your own from Burlington are coming out against you because of all your incessant whining, blatant lying to save your butt and double standards. You're next on the proverbial chopping block. Good riddance!!!
