Racine City Council candidate forum planned

RACINE — The Racine Political Education Coalition, a group of more than 25 local community organizations, has scheduled its first candidate forum for the spring 2018 nonpartisan election season for 6 p.m. Monday in the Mitchell Middle School auditorium, 2701 Drexel Ave.

This free, public forum is for Racine City Council candidates for the Sixth District, Sandy Weidner and Jen Adamski-Torres, and the 10th District, Dennis Wiser and Carrie Glenn.

Candidates will answer questions prepared by the Racine Political Education Coalition forum committee, as well as questions submitted by the audience.

County exec plans Sturtevant listening session

STURTEVANT — Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave is scheduled to hold his next monthly listening session on Tuesday, March 13, at the Sturtevant Village Hall, 2801 89th St. The session is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. County residents are invited to speak with Delagrave on any county-related topic. No appointment is necessary.

Accompanying Delagrave to the listening session will be members of the county executive’s staff and members of various county departments. County supervisors and other elected officials may also attend if their schedules permit.

Listening sessions are typically held on the second Wednesday of each month, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., though these days are subject to change. The next listening session is scheduled for April 11 at the Cesar Chavez Community Center, 2221 Douglas Ave., Racine.

Robbery attempt ends with man being shot

RACINE — The Racine Police Department is investigating a robbery attempt Tuesday night that resulted in a man being shot and injured.

At 7:23 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the 1700 block of Mead Street for a report of an attempted robbery, according to Racine Police Sgt. Adam Malacara.

During the attempted robbery, nothing was reportedly taken, but an adult male victim was allegedly found with a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

Malacara said the victim was not cooperative with police and was treated at the hospital. His condition was not released. The incident remained under investigation as of Wednesday.
