MOUNT PLEASANT — Police have released the name of a 3-year-old boy, whose death on Friday led to an arrest on pending charges of first-degree intentional homicide.
Hunter J. Wise was pronounced dead at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints hospital, 3801 Spring St., Racine, at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday and an autopsy of the boy’s body began Saturday morning, according to Racine County Medical Examiner Mike Payne.
Payne said results from the autopsy will likely not be available until Monday but he had previously told The Journal Times that “this is not a natural death.”
According to Mount Pleasant Police Chief Tim Zarzecki, police and paramedics originally received a call at about 10:10 a.m. Friday for an unresponsive child in the 1500 block of Bryn Mawr Avenue, in the Lake Park neighborhood east of Highway 32.
Later that day, after Wise was pronounced dead at the hospital, police arrested Marcus A. Johnson on pending charges of first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the child’s death. Johnson is the boyfriend of Wise’s mother, according to Mount Pleasant Police.
He is being held at the Racine County Jail pending formal charging by the District Attorney’s office.
No additional information about Wise’s death or the related criminal investigation was made public Saturday by Mount Pleasant Police.
