MOUNT PLEASANT — Tenants of an apartment are displaced but no one was injured in a fire Monday evening at Greenbriar Apartments.

The fire at the apartment complex at 5950 16th St. caused minimal damage and loss was contained to a small area, according to Jon Keiser, battalion chief for South Shore Fire Department.

Crews responded to a report of a structure fire just after 6 p.m. Monday, and upon arrival they saw light smoke and haze coming from an upper apartment. The fire was contained about 15 minutes after firefighters arrived. Crews continued to methodically check hidden areas, including the walls of the building, to make sure the fire was not going to spread.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation, Keiser said.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation, Keiser said. My bet it was someone smoking or cooking and fell asleep. Notice the address!
