RACINE — Two Racine teens are facing charges for their alleged involvement in a recent north-side burglary.
Malik T. Kentle, 18, of the 1500 block of Lasalle Street, and Darion T. Person, 18, of the 800 block of Yout Street, are both charged with a felony counts of burglary of a building or dwelling, both as repeat offenders. Kentle’s charge is modified as to being a party to a crime.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 5:07 p.m. on Dec. 7, Racine police responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Green Street for a reported burglary. Officers determined the entry point was the kitchen and found a football-sized brick near a shattered window and a chair.
One resident told police she came home and found several Christmas gifts had been opened. She also found the back door open. The resident then left the home and called police.
Police reported that the residence had been ransacked. Another of the residents said a Winchester double-barreled shotgun had been taken from the home. Two silver dollars and other items were also reported missing.
An investigator began looking into the burglary and later determined a robbery had occurred nearby, on the 3300 block of St. Clair Street, between 1:15 and 1:25 p.m. on the same date.
The St. Clair Street incident had been captured on video. The video shows a male, later identified as Kentle, pulling on the door to the residence. Person is also reportedly shown on the video, standing near Kentle.
Person was located on Dec. 11 and arrested in relation to the St. Clair Street incident. He was found to be in possession of a cellphone, which yielded a picture taken at 2:05 p.m. the day of the burglary near Person’s home.
The image shows three males. One male is allegedly seen holding a semi-automatic pistol. In the photo, Kentle and Person are both seen wearing the same clothes as the video from the St. Clair Street video, with Person holding a double-barreled shotgun — reportedly, the same one taken from the Green Street residence.
Police also reportedly found incriminating texts between Kentle and Person referring to robberies and burglaries.
A search of Person’s home also reportedly turned up a Virgin Mary pendant under a couch cushion that the Green Street resident reported missing from their home.
Both Kentle and Person remained in custody on $10,000 cash bonds as of Friday afternoon, online records show.
A preliminary hearing for Kentle has been scheduled for Feb. 14 at the county Law Enforcement Center, 717 Wisconsin Ave.
Person has a status conference scheduled for March 2 at the Law Enforcement Center.
