RACINE — A Racine man is facing a charge of allegedly selling heroin to a man who fatally overdosed inside Rosie’s Restaurant.
A charge was filed Monday in Racine County Circuit Court against Lawrence L. Price, 30, of the 1000 block of Grand Avenue. He is charged with a felony count of second-degree reckless homicide as a repeat offender.
According to the criminal complaint:
At about 10 a.m. Nov. 27, a Racine Police Department officer was dispatched to Rosie’s Restaurant, 1804 Taylor Ave., for a reported drug overdose. (Rosie’s was heavily damaged in an unrelated fire on New Year’s Day).
Adam Ehlert, a 34-year-old man from the 700 block of Ohio Street, was identified as the person who overdosed and died. Based on an investigation, it was determined that Ehlert had died from a heroin overdose.
An investigator spoke with a witness who said she knew both Ehlert and Price. The witness stated she knew Price dealt in heroin, had accompanied him on trips to obtain heroin and knew Ehlert to use heroin and be one of Price’s customers.
The witness also said she was friends with Price and knew Price quit dealing heroin in the days after Ehlert’s death. She also told the investigator Price’s heroin was good or potent in quality, and he wanted to maximize his profits.
Another witness confirmed Ehlert was one of Price’s clients and said Price told her he had visited Ehlert the morning he overdosed to get money that Ehlert owed Price. She said Price told her Ehlert had bought heroin from him that morning.
Price was in custody in the Racine County Jail as of Monday afternoon, jail records showed.
