CALEDONIA — A man was injured and another taken into custody after what was initially a report of a loud noise complaint led police to about 2½ pounds of marijuana, other drugs and a firearm at a Caledonia apartment.
At approximately 1:33 a.m. Friday, the Caledonia Police Department responded to 3500 block of Highway H for a loud noise complaint, according to a Caledonia Police Department news release.
Police found a man, allegedly from the Manitowoc area, with substantial facial and head wounds. He was transported by Caledonia paramedics to Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine for his injuries. The injured man refused to identify his assailants or pursue charges, police said.
During the investigation, officers reportedly observed the illegal drugs and paraphernalia in plain view in the apartment. Officers received permission to search the apartment and located more than 1,100 grams of marijuana, other drugs and paraphernalia, a firearm and nearly $2,700 in an unlocked safe
An apartment resident, 28-year-old Steve Smith, was arrested on pending felony drug and weapon charges, police said.
Police said investigative reports are being forwarded to the Racine County district attorney for review.
