RACINE — Racine police are investigating a shooting that took place Thursday afternoon in the Rubberville area.

No one was believed to have been injured during the incident.

Scanner reports indicated that police were called to the 3400 block of 17th Street at about 4:30 p.m. on a report of a shooting.

By 4:45 p.m., squad cars were blocking 17th Street from Hayes to Connolly avenues as police officers secured the scene and talked to potential witnesses.

In a cordoned-off area near Blaine and 17th street, evidence markers were set out next to more than 20 shell casings.

A resident of the street said he had just walked home from a nearby store when he saw a black Camaro make a U-turn at 17th and Hayes then head west down 17th street toward a home in the 3400 block.

He said he then saw a man get out the car and walk backward down the street shooting west toward Connolly Avenue.

The incident that occurred at about 4:20 p.m. was over within a matter of minutes, the resident estimated.
