MOUNT PLEASANT — Police are investigating an early Thursday morning fire that is considered suspicious.
According to a release from the Mount Pleasant Police Department, police and South Shore firefighters responded to a fire call at 1:48 a.m. in the area of the 3000 block of Meyer Court, near Durand Avenue and Pritchard Park.
The call was for a vehicle on fire in front of garage doors of an attached garage.
When officers arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames and starting the garage eaves on fire.
Officers advised responding fire units of their findings and began to evacuate the surrounding residences at the condominium complex. South Shore fire responded quickly, extinguishing the flames coming from the vehicle and adjacent garage area, keeping it from spreading further, according to the release.
The fire was determined to be of suspicious origin and the Mount Pleasant Police Detective Bureau was still investigating as of Thursday afternoon. No injuries were reported.
