RACINE — Two Racine men are facing charges after a disturbance in which police reportedly found a handgun and multiple bags of marijuana.
Deondre M. Hollis, 19, of the 1700 block of Howe Street, is charged with a felony count of possession with intent to deliver or manufacture marijuana (less than 200 grams), and misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer and disorderly conduct.
Ridge R. Franklin, 19, of the 200 block of Harrison Street, is charged with a felony count of possession of marijuana (second and subsequent offense) with use of a dangerous weapon, and misdemeanor counts of carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 1:57 a.m. Thursday, Racine Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of Harrison Street after a 911 hang up call in which the dispatcher claimed they could hear yelling between a male and female.
When officers arrived at the residence, they heard a female yelling. Officers also allege they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence.
While standing in the doorway, the officer saw a male, later identified as Franklin, exit a room, allegedly carrying a 3-foot wooden dowel in his hands. Franklin was reportedly attempting to flee from officers, and when an officer told Franklin to stop, he failed to obey, police said.
An officer patted Franklin down and reportedly felt the rigid outline of a handgun in Franklin’s left front pants pocket, later identified as an 0.380 automatic Colt pistol. Franklin reportedly said he did not have a valid concealed-carry permit for the gun.
Police also reportedly found two plastic bags of marijuana in Franklin’s front right pocket, which weighed 1.8 grams, and allegedly discovered Franklin had an open warrant for child support obligations.
Another man, Hollis, also exited a room, followed by three females who were yelling at him. An officer took hold of Hollis’ arm and escorted him away from the females. Hollis reportedly pulled away from the officer multiple times before the officer told Hollis to stop resisting. The officer then attempted to handcuff Hollis, who reportedly continued resisting.
A search of Hollis allegedly turned up three bags of marijuana — the first bag reportedly contained 21.8 grams, the second bag contained 29.9 grams and the third bag allegedly contained 25 little bags of marijuana weighing 26.3 grams. The total weight of the marijuana found on Hollis was allegedly 77.3 grams.
Franklin was being held at the Racine County Jail on $500 cash bond as of Thursday night, online records show. Hollis was not in custody. A preliminary hearing for both men is scheduled for Feb. 14 at the Racine County Law Enforcement Center, 717 Wisconsin Ave.
