RACINE - A man allegedly bit off part of his girlfriend's ear following an argument.

Lamario J. Jones, 23, 1304 Harbridge Ave., is charged with mayhem, substantial battery and disorderly conduct for the Sept. 5 incident. He could face up to $111,000 in fines and more than 40 years in the prison system, which includes time in jail or prison and on extended supervision or probation.

A witness told police Jones was upset with the victim because he could not talk to her when she was working.

Police went to the 4200 block of Durand Avenue, a residence, on Sept. 5 for a reported assault. A woman there told police Jones, her boyfriend, bit off part of her ear during the assault.

The witness said Jones broke the victim's phone, argued with her and hit her. The witness said she called police to have Jones removed from the home, and that Jones then punched the victim and bit her ear.

Jones appeared in court Wednesday, where his bond was set at $5,000 cash. He is due in court Nov. 11 for a preliminary hearing.
