BRIGHTON — Richard Bong State Recreation Area, 26313 Burlington Road, announces a series of workdays for groups who need service hours or want a service project, or for people who want to volunteer their time. Dates are: March 2-3, 12:30-3:30 p.m.; and March 14, 17 and 31, 9:30 a.m.-noon.

Workdays are planned to improve the park and the environment. People may volunteer for as long as they want. Suggested age is 10 and older.

Planned projects include helping with habitat work by cutting and hauling brush, improving trails by cutting brush, and clearing paths and pruning park trees in picnic areas.

Workdays are not canceled due to bad weather. People should come dressed to work outside in layers with boots, hats and gloves. Those who have tools may bring them but Bong will try to have all necessary materials.

When a person arrives for the workday they should ask at the visitor center for directions to the work area and staff will give them a free pass for the day. To register, call (262) 878-5607.
