RACINE - Police said Wednesday they have located the owner of the dog who attacked a 72-year-old man Aug. 6.
The supervisor of investigations is not willing to release the woman's name at this point, said Racine Police spokesman Sgt. Bernie Kupper. The woman is cooperating with investigators. The District Attorney's office is reviewing the incident.
He said her account of what happened matched the victim's account.
Frank Kosha of Caledonia was on his way to play cards that morning in the 2800 block of 12th Street when he saw a woman walking two dogs on the nearby bike path. Police reports said one of the dogs broke loose from the woman and attacked Kosha. Bleeding from a bite to the leg, Kosha kicked the dog off. The woman apparently came and got control of the dog, but then walked away. She allegedly did not try to aid Kosha or call for help, and refused to give him her name.
The dog, which has no previous history of biting anyone, is being quarantined for 10 days to be examined by a veterinarian.
Kupper said he did not have information on how the woman was located - if police were tipped off or not - but added, "We're happy to see the citizens were concerned enough to get involved and assist us by providing information and direction."
