Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wilks of 16755 Durand Ave., Union Grove, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 13 with family and friends at their home. The couple was surprised with a horse and buggy ride, similar to the one they had on their wedding day.
Wilks and the former Loretta Francis were married on July 13, 1963, at South Raymond Lutheran Church in Franksville.
The couple spend winter in Bushnell, Fla., and are members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Union Grove and Woodlands Lutheran Church in Mountverde, Fla.
Wilks served in the National Guard.
He was a self-employed farmer with Wilks Brothers Farms.
Wilks was a 4-H leader for beef, chairman of the Livestock Committee, a Farm Bureau member, Farm Service Agency board member and president, and board member of Racine Lutheran High School. Wilks was an usher and council member for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. His hobbies include flower gardening and swimming.
Mrs. Wilks, a homemaker, was a gofer for the farm and babysat a lot for her grandchildren.
She was a 4-H leader in sewing and is still a crochet leader. Mrs. Wilks was a director and treasurer for the 4-H Leaders Association, represented 4-H on the fair board and still works with the swine and beef during the Racine County Fair. She is on the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, is chairman of the cream puff stand, and helped with the Racine Lutheran High School Harvest Fair and the Case IH banquet. Mrs. Wilks was secretary/treasurer for three bowling leagues and still is for a bowling league in Florida. Mrs. Wilks’ hobbies include crocheting, swimming, golfing, volleyball, bowling and reading.
The couple enjoy reading, playing cards and watching their grandchildren play all kinds of ball.
They have four children: Becky (Rob) Demuth of Franksville; Linnet (Jim) Henningfeld and Eric (Marcia) of Union Grove, and Kelly (Tiffany) of Delavan. Mr. and Mrs. Wilks have nine grandchildren.
