KENOSHA — The Southport Lighthouse on Simmons Island, 5117 Fourth Ave., is open for the season through Oct. 28.
Visitors can tour Kenosha’s maritime museum inside the 1867 house where the keepers used to live, and climb the light tower 72 steps to the top for scenic views of Downtown Kenosha and Lake Michigan. The Chicago skyline can also be seen on clear days.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Visitors can climb the tower at the cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children (ages 8 and older).
There is no fee to visit the museum. Donations are accepted.
