RACINE — The Racine Concert Band and Park High School Bands will present a joint concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the John Burns Theater at Park High School, 1901 12th St. The bands will join forces for a grand finale, “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” by Edvard Grieg.
John Schoettler, Park High School director of instrumental music, has been a Racine Unified music educator for 29 years, having previously taught at McKinley and Starbuck middle schools. In addition to his teaching, he is a member of the UW-Parkside Community Band, Kenosha Pops Concert Band, Pat Crawford Big Band and the Jazz Wave of Waukegan, Ill.
The Park High School Wind Ensemble will perform a program of spooky music appropriate to the Halloween season. James Syler’s “Hocus Pocus,” Rod Temperton’s “Thriller” and Grieg’s “March of the Trolls” are the featured selections. Band 1 and 2 will perform “Ghost Riders” by Roland Barrett and “The Monster Under the Bed” by Robert Sheldon.
The Racine Concert Band, the official band of the City of Racine, will feature music by Spanish-American composer Carlos Surinach, “Sinfonietta Flamenca.” Conductor Mark Eichner, music director since 2002, will also lead the band in performances of “Danzon Cubano” by Aaron Copland, Benjamin Britten’s “Paul Bunyan Overture” and “Caccia” by Reber Clark.
Admission is $5, $4 for students and $3 for seniors. There is no charge for ages 6 and younger.
