MOUNT PLEASANT — The Racine Concert Band and the Case High School bands will perform a joint concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, in the Case High School theater, 7345 Washington Ave.
The Racine Concert Band celebrates the centennial of Leonard Bernstein’s birth with a performance of “Four Dances from “West Side Story,” including the Cool, Mambo and Maria dance scenes. Two Wisconsin composers are represented in the program: UW-Stevens Point composer Charles Young’s “Songs without Words” and “Bandanna Overture” by Daron Hagen, a Milwaukee native whose music has been played by the Milwaukee Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
“A Neapolitan Dance” by Jules Massenet and music for the race track, “Perfect Trip” by Patrick Burns complete the program. Mark Eichner, music director of the Racine Concert Band since 2002, will conduct.
The Case Wind Ensemble, conducted by Cynthia Banaszak, will join the Racine Concert Band for a grand finale, performing “Cajun Folk Dances” by University of Southern California composer Frank Ticheli.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students, and $3 for seniors and children 6 and younger.
