SOMERS — The Ben Paterson Trio will perform a free jazz concert at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 900 Wood Road, Somers, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

Paterson — who “Downbeat” magazine calls “as soulful a pianist/organist as exists anywhere” — will present a concert in the vein of Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson, and he’ll be joined onstage by Dave Braun on guitar and Patrick Mulcahy on bass. Their performance will take place in the Frances Bedford Concert Hall, in UW-Parkside’s Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts & Humanities.

Originally from Philadelphia, Paterson studied both classical and jazz music before moving to Chicago, where he worked with top musicians, absorbing the city’s unique blend of jazz and blues. He recently relocated to New York, where he performs regularly at premiere jazz clubs. He also tours internationally.

Paterson’s concert is the first in a 2017/18 series of jazz concerts to be presented at UW-Parkside by the SE Wisconsin Hearing Center. There is no charge for admission. Donations will be accepted for a scholarship fund at the university. For more information, go to www.benpaterson.com.
