KENOSHA — Each month, a staff member from the Kenosha History Center, 220 51st Place, selects an artifact of the month.
For April, Cynthia Nelson, curator and archivist, has chosen an object manufactured locally yet it holds a mystery. It is a Le Blanc Vito E flat saxophone with accessories and carrying case, manufactured by Le Blanc Kenosha USA. It’s 26 inches long, with an elaborately engraved design and flourishes on the bell.
Karen Curran-Peters donated the saxophone in 2017. She questioned who engraved it and if it was done locally. Nelson has seen a great deal of Le Blanc pieces from beginner school grade instruments to the professional line for the likes of Al Hirt. She said she had never seen a Le Blanc USA made instrument so beautifully engraved.
After doing research, it is still a mystery on how it was engraved. People who have information are asked to contact Nelson at 262-654-5770.
