RACINE — “Brooch Show,” a juried exhibit of wearable art, will open with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 5, at the Racine Arts Council ArtSpace Gallery, 316 Sixth St. Awards will be announced at 7:30 p.m. The exhibit continues through Aug. 24.
The exhibit contains brooches made from precious metals, wood, plastic, beads, wire, stone, fibers, mixed media and found objects. Exhibiting artists are Cory Ackelmire, Ethan Eichstedt-Anderson, Jess Ange, Michael Bernard, Jessica Calderwood, Jim Charles, Joseph Church, Nathan Dube, Terry Evans, David Gaura, Samira Gdisis, Sharon Giesfeldt, Janna Gregonis, Chet Griffith, Anna Gunheim, Pat Guttenberg, Mary Hanneman, Kara Hetz, Candice Hoffmann, Yuka Okane Inoue, Mary M. Janik, Yevgeniya Kaganovich, Linnea Lahlum, Carly J. Larson, Lindsay Lewis , Amy Macemon, Devon Matlock, Mary Elizabeth Nelson, Komelia Okim, June Pomatto, Toby Anne Iwon-Prioletta, Lyndsay Rice, Jason Sollman, Teresa Sullivan and Kelly Witte.
Awards juror Lena Vigna, curator of exhibitions at the Racine Art Museum, has a particular interest in the contemporary fields of adornment. She has curated numerous solo and group exhibitions and written several essays that explore issues relevant to contemporary art and society. “Narrative Illusion: Jewelry from Painting,” her last article for “Metalsmith,” explored the work of contemporary jewelers that make a connection between jewelry and painting in their work.
The Racine Arts Council is open from noon to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
