Mrs. M. Marie Morgenson will celebrate her 100th birthday during an open house in her honor from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Lake Oaks on Lake Michigan, 1916 Wisconsin Ave. (use rear entryway off DeKoven Avenue). No gifts, please.
The former Marie Prunty was born Dec. 5, 1912, in Elko, Nev., the second of 11 children born to Pinkard and Minnie Prunty. Her childhood was spent in Elko County.
She married William C. Mitchell in 1935. He died in 1962.
After completing her college education at Dominican College in Racine, she briefly taught school in Somers before marrying Thomas I. Morgenson in 1965 in Kenosha. He died in 1973.
Becoming a real estate broker in 1974, Mrs. Morgenson established the first Century 21 real estate office, C21 Morgenson Realty in 1978, remaining after its sale in 1991 until she retired in 1998. She was also president of the Woman’s Club of Racine.
Mrs. Morgenson is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed world travel and golfing.
Mrs. Morgenson has five children: Marie (Jim) Hayes of Kennilworth, Ill.; Z. Pauline Burke of San Diego, Calif.; William R. (Elaine) Mitchell of Arlington Heights, Ill.; Esther Taylor of La Jolla, Calif., and Richard M. (Sue) Mitchell of Upper Montclair, N.J.
She is the devoted grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
