Sen. Master Sgt. Debra Bernhardt, daughter of Ed and Mary Ann Bernhardt of Racine, retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve after 30 years of service. She was the production supervisor of the 434th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind. As the pro-super, Bernhardt was responsible for supporting 16 assigned KC-135R Stratotankers and their worldwide aerial refueling mission by leading a workforce of more than 300 aircraft maintenance technicians and support personnel, performing major and minor aircraft maintenance and refurbishment.

Bernhardt, a 1982 St. Catherine’s High School graduate, served her country in Texas, Korea, Germany, Puerto Rico, Philippines, Kuwait, Wisconsin and Indiana. Major awards and decorations bestowed upon Bernhardt include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal among others.
