RACINE COUNTY — United Way of Racine County will hold EITC Awareness Day from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the George Bray Neighborhood YMCA, 924 Center St.
The event is intended to kick off United Way’s volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) season, and is also an opportunity to raise awareness about one of the nation’s most powerful poverty-fighting tools, the Earned Income Tax Credit. The EITC is a federal income tax credit for working people with low to moderate incomes that can provide up to an additional $6,269 in refunds.
Racine County residents with an annual household income of $54,000 or less qualify to receive VITA services through United Way of Racine County, and may qualify for Earned Income Tax Credits. This will be the only day during the tax season that appointments will not be required for VITA services. If married and filing jointly, both spouses must be present.
