Beginning at noon on Thursday, May 17 until noon Friday, May 18, four Racine community nonprofit organizations are teaming up to do more in 24 hours.
Four Our Community is a joint effort by Racine Healthcare Network, NAMI, Racine Friendship Clubhouse and Focus on Community. This fundraising initiative is part of United Way’s Do More 24 Racine program designed to help area non-profit organizations raise funds to support their efforts to better the community.
Lynelle Saunders, director of Racine Friendship Clubhouse, explained this unique approach as, “A way to leverage the knowledge and talent of four groups for the betterment of the Racine Community.” Four Our Community extends a broader platform that will benefit multiple community related nonprofit organizations under one cause. "We want to rally around mental health and wellness to build a stronger and healthier community," said Saunders.
Racine Friendship Clubhouse is a nonprofit, member driven organization dedicated to helping people with mental illness including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety and depression. Members of the clubhouse work towards achieving their social, educational and vocational goals.
Focus on Community works with Racine youth to promote a healthy lifestyle through youth and family-strengthening programs designed to prevent addiction. “Health and wellness is essential to everyone’s happiness and well-being," said Jason Meekma, director. "Racine residents who may be at a disadvantage due to mental health issues, addiction, low income or no insurance have resources that can help them get back on the right track.”
Health Care Network’s Mission is to provide free/low cost health care to Racine County residents who are of limited income and medically uninsured. Director Allison Sergio commented on the combined fundraising efforts: “So many non-profit organizations are vying for a limited amount of donations. We believe there is strength in numbers and in a broader cause. Each organization is focused on making Racine a better community.”
Marina Pappas, director of NAMI, explained the collaborative efforts: “We have spent the last two months meeting once a week to establish our marketing plans which include a strong social media presence and video posts about each organization and the Four Our Community combined efforts.”
