Let’s get moving
This month, Absolutely Waterford will move to a new location at 300 E. Main St. at and will share space with the Waterford Chamber of Commerce. Dawn Jurgensen, board president, explains this new collaboration, “2018 is an exciting time for the residents of the Waterford area. Absolutely Waterford, the Waterford Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Waterford are collaborating on increasing tourism and attracting unique businesses to the Waterford area. Working together will bring very positive changes to our community and its volunteers. Absolutely Waterford’s mission continues to be focused on developing Waterford’s unique identity in keeping with its rich history and to promote the revitalization of the downtown Heritage District. This collaboration will allow us to share ideas, energy and focus as we partner together to make Waterford a ‘go-to’ destination in the 21st century.”
The Kentucky Derby Party will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Docs on the Fox. Wear your derby hat, bowtie or jockey outfit. There is no admission fee, but lots of opportunities to win prizes, enter raffles, choose the winning horse and best of all — to enjoy a mint julep.
And then on May 24, to commemorate National Historic Preservation Month, Absolutely Waterford’s Design Committee will launch the first self-guided Heritage Walking Tour. The tour features historic sites throughout the downtown Waterford district which will be marked by handsome bronze plaques. Design Committee members have worked tirelessly to research and document the history of each building. Plaques will tell the stories of past owners and businesses.
Fall Festival and River’s Edge Art Walk
Absolutely Waterford will once again host the popular and well attended River’s Edge Art Walk this fall. But, this year the event will be expanded and become a three-day Fall Festival, beginning with the REAW on Friday evening. On Saturday, the art theme continues as visitors are encouraged to engage in a number of interactive workshops where all age groups learn how to make art of all kinds. Food vendors, local bands, a flea market at the Waterford Unique Antique Market, pumpkin carving competition and a host of other activities will be offered for everyone to enjoy.
AW will continue to host the Absolu-Tea and Winter Wonderland Parade. We will also have a strong presence in this year’s Balloon Fest.
