UNION GROVE — The Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off the nine-month 2010 Leadership Union Grove class Sept. 7 with an overnight retreat for the 11 students at Trefoil Oaks in Kenosha.
The students and their sponsors are: Brian Dexter, Village of Union Grove; Heidi Edwards, Union Grove Elementary School; Nancy Hoppe, First Banking Center-sponsored by Union Grove Chamber of Commerce; Jade Kasprowicz, Case New Holland, sponsored by Kiwanis); Sue Leih, Yorkville United Methodist Church, sponsored by the Town of Yorkville; Mike Mikula, Union Grove High School; Kory Small and Brent Schuebel, Southern Wisconsin Center; Connie Theilig and Mary Wright, Shepherds Ministries; and Kirk Weese, Union Grove Lions Club.
Students will explore health and human services, law enforcement and justice, education, local government, business and economic development, volunteerism, recreation and quality of life.
LUG was the first leadership program in southeastern Wisconsin. Now in the 14th year, Leadership Union Grove is a joint effort of the Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce, the Village of Union Grove, Shepherds Ministries Inc. and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Michele McGarry, Shepherds Ministries Inc. and the Class of 2004, is the chairperson. Terri Gray, Chamber of Commerce executive director and Class of 2009, is the director.
