William M. Walsh

BURLINGTON—William M. Walsh, 86, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Aurora Memorial Hospital-Burlington.
Born in Illinois on August 17, 1931, he was the son of Martin and Margaret (nee Doyle) Walsh. He lived in different areas growing up, settling in Union Grove where he graduated from Union Grove High School.
On November 22, 1952, he was united in marriage to Carol May Brenton at St. Francis Xavier Church. Following marriage they made their home in Kansasville, in the house they built from the ground up, and raised their family. Bill worked for WE Energies and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church where he enjoyed volunteering with various activities, especially the turkey dinner with his friend Bart. He volunteered with National Mutual Benefits and was a long time member of Antique Tractor Club. He was a Building Inspector for the Town of Dover. He enjoyed working on cars and in his younger days even raced them. In his much younger days he drove motorcycles and along with his wife was a member of the Flying Disks Motorcycle Club. He spent time doing reindeer displays with his grandchildren. He loved hunting with his sons and father-in-law, gardening and planting things from seed and watching them grow. He enjoyed raising animals, especially African Watusi Cattle. His faith and his church were very important to him along with spending time with his family. Along with Carol they managed to take the entire family on regular vacations, with one of his favorites being when they went out West. He kept his children involved in 4H and made it possible for them to show at the Racine County Fair. It was important for him to attend his grandchildren’s sporting and school events.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol; children, Mary (Rick) Markiewicz, Joseph (Anne) Walsh, Jean (Dana) Peterson, Margaret Baird, Michael Walsh, Patricia Fitzpatrick, Rose Walsh, Susan Gunderson, Sean (Mary Kay) Walsh and Katherine (Frank) Civitano; 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Mentink. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Caroline (Norbert) and Margaret (John): and brother-in-law, Merle.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Brighton. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home on Thursday, March 15th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
