Mrs. Delores “Dee” Torphy of 3900 Main St. celebrated her 90th birthday with her four daughters and their families.
The former Delores Bohen was born on May 16, 1928, in Summit Township. She came to Racine on Aug. 19, 1969.
She married Thomas Emmett Torphy Jr. on Nov. 4, 1961, in Holy Cross Church, Milwaukee. He died on Aug. 22, 2012.
Mrs. Torphy was employed as a switchboard operator, but then trained new operators. During that time JC Penney bought the company for their catalog business. She worked for those companies nearly eight years. Prior to that she was deputy register of deeds of Juneau County.
Mrs. Torphy enjoyed horseback riding, reading and ballroom dancing. Her favorite activity of all is collecting small interesting rocks (particularly molten pieces) and reading about the Civil War as her grandfather fought in it.
Mrs. Torphy is a member of St. Rita Catholic Church.
She has five children: Kathleen (Jeff) McMahon, Mary, and Patty (Norbert) Gedemer, all of Racine; Ruthie of Minneapolis, Minn., and the late Mike Torphy. Mrs. Torphy has five grandchildren.
