Robert L. Krause Sr. of 19101 Savage Road, Union Grove, celebrated his 90th birthday Oct. 8 during a surprise birthday party given by his children at the American Legion in Union Grove.
Krause was born on Oct. 11, 1927, in Racine. He is hoping to make it to 103, that way he can say he was retired as long as he worked.
Krause is a World War II and Korean War veteran. He had the honor of going on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight on Oct. 11, 2014, his 87th birthday.
Krause was married to Donna Nichols on April 17, 1971, in Waukegan, Ill. She died Oct. 9.
Krause was employed as a machinist at Twin Disc Inc. for 40 years.
He is an avid hunter and fisherman that turned into a career of taxidermy. In his younger days, Krause owned and flew is own airplane. He did a lot of traveling in the lower 48 states and Hawaii. Krause still has a few places on his bucket list including Alaska and Niagara Falls.
Krause loves to do landscaping and reading old country western books.
He has seven children, 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren through a blended family with his wife of 46 years.
