Mrs. Shirley Mae Dembowski of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Kansasville will celebrate her 90th birthday Feb. 25.
The former Shirley Mae Francois was born on Feb. 25, 1928, in Racine to Stephen and Esther Francois.
Mrs. Dembowski attended Knapp Elementary School. After her father lost his job in Racine, the family moved to her mother’s aunt’s farm in Oconto.
After graduating from Oconto High School, Shirley moved back to Racine and was employed by Wisconsin Gas and Electric Co.
It was there that she met Michael Dembowski. They were married on Sept. 4, 1947 at St. Rita Catholic Church and recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
The couple started Michael’s Machine Co. in the basement of their home on Douglas Avenue. They eventually built the shop next door to the house and when they sold the business they moved to their house on Eagle Lake in Kansasville. They spend their summers there and the winters in Florida.
Mrs. Dembowski and her husband enjoy traveling, shopping and spending time with friends. She especially enjoys spending time with her best childhood friend, Joyce (Karls) Stindle of Racine. Joyce visits Shirley at the lake in the summer and the two have good times together.
Mrs. Dembowski has two daughters: Kathy (Timothy) Johnson of Boynton Beach, and Michele “Missy” (Neel) Long of Orlando, Fla. She has two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
