Mr. and Mrs. Norman McInnis of 5617 Ridgecrest Drive, Mount Pleasant, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary during a road trip with their daughters to Ashland to visit relatives and friends, and celebrated by going out to dinner with them and seeing different sites in the area.
McInnis and the former Elaine Paul were married on Oct. 13, 1962, in Epiphany Lutheran Church, where they are still members.
McInnis joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1955. He served in Japan from 1956 to 1958 as a sergeant in the Marine Air Wing and also spent time in the Philippines and Okinawa. His home base was located in Atsugi, Japan.
McInnis was an accountant/controller for J.I. Case Co. until his retirement in October of 1992.
His volunteer work included being on the board of Wisconsin Lutheran Child and Family Services in Milwaukee, serving as treasurer for more than 20 years. McInnis also served at Epiphany Lutheran Church as president, treasurer and secretary. He also served at Shoreland Lutheran High School for 48 years and was on the general board for six years on the Board of Education and Finance Committee. In addition, he serves on the Shoreland Lutheran High School Foundation Board.
Mrs. McInnis was a secretary at Howard Industries and Mass Mutual Insurance Co., and worked in the payroll department at In-Sink-Erator. She retired in 1965 when their second child was born.
Mrs. McInnis has been active at Epiphany Lutheran Church serving on many fundraisers. She currently serves on the Prayer Chain and Banner Committee.
The Racine natives have enjoyed their travels to Australia, Spain and Europe, and lived in the Netherlands for three months.
They have three daughters: Gail (James) Whittier and Laura (John) Knoch of Racine, and Kathryn (Steve) Kaplan of Oak Creek. The couple has six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A a second great-grandchild is due at the end of October.
