Mr. and Mrs. Steve Jansta of 2809 Norwood Drive celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 3 during a party in their honor at Asch’s Place. Their marriage will be blessed during the 9 a.m. Mass today at St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church, where they are members.
Jansta and the former Barbara Ayers were married on Feb. 3, 1968, in St. Edward Catholic Church in Seattle, Wash. The couple moved to Racine in August of 1969, after Jansta left the U.S. Army. They met at a USO dance in May of 1967 at Fort Lewis, Wash.
Jansta, a Racine native, was employed by Racine Steel Castings for 26 years and then Castalloy Foundry in Waukesha for 15 years, retiring as production control manager in October of 2011.
Jansta enjoys all sports but is a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and Duke basketball. He enjoys karaoke. Jansta is a cantor and choir member at St. Richard’s, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 697 as treasurer, historian and youth leader.
Mrs. Jansta was a dental assistant in Seattle for three years. She was employed by Professional Positioners for 18 years and Allesee Orthodontic Appliances for 24 years, retiring as lead technician in December of 2011.
Mrs. Jansta is a member of the Altar Society at St. Richard’s, is a Eucharistic minister and serves meals at the Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization. She enjoys reading.
The couple bring Communion to homebound people four times a week, and enjoy bowling, golfing and traveling. They are avid NASCAR fans and only need six more tracks to experience a race at all tracks.
The Janstas have three children: Misty (Steve) Cross of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Monica Jansta and Andy (fiancé Jackie Larson) Jansta of Racine. The couple has eight grandchildren.
